(WECT)- Law enforcement officers across the state are trading in their polished boots for tennis shoes, as the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics kicks off.

Officers representing more than 200 agencies will carry the flame of hope, culminating in the lighting of the North Carolina Special Olympics Summer Games cauldron in Raleigh.

In the Cape Fear Area, the run begins Wednesday at the WPD headquarters at 615 Bess Street, with Chief Ralph Evangelous on site to announce the official start.

Wilmington Police officers along with New Hanover County Sheriff's Office deputies will run together down Bess Street, on to Martin Luther King Parkway, over to Market Street and up Highway 17 to Pender County-- passing the torch to Pender law enforcement who will run all morning Thursday.

WEATHER: Warm and sunny

Sunny and mild conditions will be the norm for the next couple of days as Bermuda high pressure sets up shop over the western Atlantic.

Expect to see high temperatures today moving into the mid 80s as a more summer like pattern emerges.

Plenty of Atlantic and Gulf moisture streams into the region on the west side of the high pressure giving us enough moisture to touch off a sea breeze induced shower or thunderstorm each afternoon as we go through the weekend.

WEATHER: Record cold to summer's hold

Near record morning lows (in the 40s) will give way to some warm and sunny conditions as we roll throughout the week.

Expect to see highs today considerably cooler than normal, only reaching the low 70s.  As the cool high pressure center aloft stats to move off shore to our east, we will see temperatures moving back into the 80s.

The pattern becomes a bit more summer like and stagnant as we roll into the weekend with zonal flow and not to many potent features this far south.  Highs will hit the 80s with some small rain chances into the Friday, Saturday and Sunday associated with the summer sea breeze
