PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man whom authorities with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office describe as a career criminal and registered sex offender was arrested Friday after he allegedly broke into a home in Currie.
Tashawn Lamar Southward, 34, of Currie, has been charged with first degree burglary, breaking and entering and larceny, sheriff’s officials say, after he allegedly broke into the victim’s outbuilding, placed a chair under a window and entered her home.
The homeowner told deputies that she was awoken by a noise, and saw Southward in her bedroom. She called out to her son, who was also in the home. The suspect then walked into her son’s room, then walked out the back door of the home.
Deputies apprehended Southward walking down the highway near Hwy. 210 and Brinson Road.
