Spray painting artist’s work to be on display at Spring Fest

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – While many people enjoy painting, a Pender Early College High School senior is garnering attention for his talent using a less common type of paint to create artwork.

Dylan English uses just spray paint to create nature and space scenes on surf, skate boogie and skim boards, according to Scott A. Borah, a school spokesperson. You can see his creations in person at the upcoming Spring Fest, scheduled for May 4 at the Pender County Courthouse from 6 to 10 p.m.

Students celebrate Arbor Day with creative tree art

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Student artwork is on display at the Pender County Public Library in celebration of Arbor Day.

According to a news release, Pender Early College High School students in CFCC Art 131 Class created their own original tree artwork.

The class instructor teaches students skills like drawing gestural lines, directional lines, continuous lines, outlines, contour drawing, texture, and more.

'Under the Dome' films in Burgaw

BURGAW, NC (WECT) - The new CBS show, Under the Dome, filmed in Burgaw on Monday.

Courthouse Avenue was closed and there were parking restrictions on Wilmington Street, Wright Street and Fremont Street.

The series is based in a fictitious town called Chester's Mill. The town finds itself surrounded by a mysterious barrier that won't let people travel outside of it.

The series also filmed in Burgaw earlier this month.

TV series  'Under the Dome' scheduled to film in Burgaw

BURGAW, NC (WECT) - CBS's new series Under the Dome has tentative plans to start shooting in Burgaw. According to the town, crews are planning on filming downtown on March 6 and 7.

According to CBS spokesperson Phil Gonzales, Under the Dome will star Natalie Martinez (Broken City), Colin Ford (Supernatural) and Britt Robertson.

High school student helps UNCW professor teach Arabic

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A Pender Early College High School student has been assisting a UNCW professor teach Arabic this semester, according to an Early College school official.

Ayan Ajeen, a sophomore, has been helping Herbert Berge, Ph.D., Director of International Studies and Professor of Philosophy and Religion with an introductory class.

The class covered the alphabet, basic conversation, reading, writing and speaking.

Burgaw prepares for Classic Christmas

BURGAW, NC - (WECT) - The town of Burgaw is preparing for their Classic Christmas event which will take place all day on Saturday, December 1.

To kick off the event, vintage portraits will be taken at the old USO Community Building from 8am to 4pm. Then at 4pm there will be classic homes tour. The tour begins at the museum, 200 West Bridgers Street and goes until 8pm.

A Christmas Tree lighting will take place at 6pm on the courthouse square.

Trunk R Treat event offers alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating

BURGAW, NC (WECT) – Families looking for an alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating with their children can participate in an event called Trunk R Treat instead, hosted by Spec 8, a childcare center.

The event will boast food, games, prizes, a cake walk, jump houses and more, according to a flyer.

Arm bands to participate in the fun will cost $5, and meal tickets, which include hot dogs, chips and a drink are $2.75.
