PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Pender County received more than $150,000 from the Parks and Recreation Authority, according to a news release from the N.C Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
State parks director Lewis Ledford made the announcement on Friday and said that a total of $1.05 million was awarded to five local governments for parks and recreation projects.
Pender County will use its $162.545 for development and renovation of Millers Pond Park, the release said.
“The Parks and Recreation Trust Fund has reached into hundreds of local communities offering new opportunities for recreation and fitness,” Ledford stated. “These opportunities for new parks, trails, greenways and recreation facilities go hand in hand with North Carolina’s commitment to conservation, sound environmental stewardship and economic opportunity.”
