Medicine Drop box in Pender Sheriff's Office

BURGAW, NC - (WECT) - A box for unused and unwanted medicine will now be permanently placed in the Pender County Sheriff's Office, as part of Operation Medicine Drop.

Officers with the narcotics division tell wect.com that the box will sit in the lobby of the Burgaw office.

Anyone will be able to drop off unused medicine that is sitting in their medicine cabinets at home.

The Sheriff's Office is located at 605 E Fremont St

29 DWI citations written during "Booze It & Lose It" campaign

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Nearly 736 people in Pender County received a citation during North Carolina's "Booze It & Lose It" campaign, which ran from Dec. 7 until Jan. 2, according to a news release.

Many of the citations were for traffic violations (580) including speeding (279) and DWLR (26).

Police cited 29 people with DWI, 16 of them under the age of 21 while 13 DWI charges were given to people 21 and over. Officials also caught 3 people for drug violations.

Other notable citations include 55 safety belt violations and 39 reckless driving.

There was only 1 checkpoint setup during this period.

One meth lab reported in Pender Co. in 2012

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – A record number of meth labs were reported in 2012, according to North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper, but just one was reported in Pender County.

Cooper said in a news release Tuesday that SBI agents busted 460 meth labs last year.

In 2011, 344 were busted.
