BURGAW, NC (WECT) - Pender County Utilities is making plans to introduce a new water supply to the Rocky Point/Topsail and Scotts Hill water distribution systems this Wednesday, now that the new surface water treatment plant is complete.
The process will start with a large scale flushing of the system to get rid of any sediment and particulate that has built up in the groundwater supply. Flushing is set to begin at Clarks Landing Road towards Rocky Point. It will move east on NC 210 to Highway 17 and then north and south on 17 to the borders.
The flushing program will take up to four weeks to finish. Customers could see low pressure or brown discoloration during the time. You should not wash clothes and minimize water use if the water appears brown. If you do see brown water, you are advised to run the cold water for up to five minutes to clear the lines. The brown water is not considered hazardous.
Call Pender County Utilities if you have any questions at (910) 259-1570.
