Meeting scheduled regarding Maple Hill small area plan

Press release on behalf of the Pender County Board of Commissioners:

The Pender County Department of Planning and Community Development announces a community outreach meeting for the creation of the Maple Hill Small Area Plan to take place January 26, 2013 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Maple Hill Resource Center located at 545 Maple Hill School Road, Maple Hill.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide education and outreach to the Maple Hill community regarding the purpose of a small area plan.

A small area plan’s intent is to analyze, evaluate, and review the constraints and opportunities of Maple Hill, in order to develop goals and policies beyond the Pender County Comprehensive Plan.

McIntyre-Rouzer recount cost taxpayers $18,000

The recount of votes in the NC7 Congressional race cost taxpayers more than $18,000

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – The recount of votes in the District 7 Congressional race between Mike McIntyre and David Rouzer cost taxpayers at least $18,000, according to figures from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

The twelve-county recount on November 26-28 verified McIntyre's victory over Rouzer in the general election. McIntyre lost one vote in the process, winning a ninth term in Congress by 654 votes out of more than 336,000 cast in the race.

Elections officials put the recount cost at $18,096, with only Robeson County not reporting a total cost.

Rep. Chris Millis sworn in, plans to 'keep an ear close to home'

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - This week, many new legislators will take an oath of office all over the state and the country.

New Year's Day, N.C. Rep.-elect Chris Millis was sworn in to the N.C. House by N.C. Supreme Court Justice-elect Paul Newby.

The ceremony took place Tuesday at the Pender County Courthouse.

Millis will represent House District 16, which includes all of Pender County and part of Onslow, for the next two years.

Former representative Carolyn Justice chose not to seek re-election in 2012.

Millis says his goals are to not get caught up in the happenings around Raleigh and Washington DC, but rather, "keep an ear close to home and represent the people of Pender County and the rest of the 16th district."
