Pender Early College student giving back to Burgaw Middle

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A Pender Early College High School student is giving back to Burgaw Middle School by volunteering to help young baseball players improve their skills.

Zach May is assisting Coach Willie Jones and his dad, Coach James May, with the middle school baseball team.

“Zack has great knowledge of the game,” said Coach May. “ [He] will be welcomed to help with the program as long as he wants. The players respect and look up to him. Everything he tells them, you can just see them taking it in.”

Coach Jones agrees, saying he is happy with his very young team.

Pender Early College requires students to earn 150 service learning hours of the course of five years. Many students have far exceeded this minimum requirement.
